Switzerland has one of the busiest track networks in the world, with far more than 10,000 trains travelling throughout the country every day. The Rail Control System monitors and controls rail services across SBB’s entire track network, ensuring they run punctually and safely. The system is highly complex: it calculates the track network every two seconds, solves up to one million conflicts and predicts developments in rail traffic. This allows bottlenecks to be rectified at an early stage. Experience up close how the timetable becomes a reality and how trains are controlled and directed.
